Annual Church BBQ
For the past several years the church has enjoyed the annual BBQ put on by the Fellowship Committee under the direction of Mae Alanko, assisted by the members of the committee.  To that group this year we can add the Alabama Sheriffs Ranch in the person of Jim Harmon for providing the Boston Butts and chicken.  To all of the members of the committee and to Jim we say thank you.  To Mary Lou Pope, who sold the extra Boston Butts as a fund raiser for the Boys Ranch thank you as well.  Finally to all of the cooks who brought the other dishes for the meal, including the desserts thank you.  As the photos in the slide show of photos taken during the event reveal, everyone was in a joyful and happy mood.  Great Day....Great Food.....Great Fellowship.  Click the small photo below to start the slide show.

This is a wide angle, stitched together photo of the fellowship hall during the BBQ, with apologies to those who were mangled by the stitching of the photo compiler.  All in all, it is a nice photo of all of the attendees at once.

Special Food Needs For the Christian Service Center - April 2010

April is St. Andrew By The Sea's month to stock the food pantry at the Christian Service Center.  If you are able to donate any of the foods listed below to the Center, we are in need of these items.   In case you are wondering why the list is so short, or perhaps not varied enough, keep in mind that we are able to purchase many items from the Bay Area Food bank using cash donations, and have stocked up on those items which are not listed.

Ramen Noodles
Canned Soup - any type
Hamburger Helper type meals
Oatmeal (Individual Packets)
Grits (Individual Packets)
Jelly - any flavor
Dry Cereal  - any type
Canned tomatoes
Dry Boxed Potatoes

Any help in providing these would be most appreciated

Motel size soap bars, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other toiletries, as well as disposable diapers are always needed.

And finally, we are pleased to accept cash so we can buy food for pennies on the dollar from the Bay Area Food Bank.  Please make your checks to the Christian Service Center with the church's name on the "for" line at the bottom left hand corner.

Memorial for Sue Brizius
A Celebration of Life for Sue Brizius will be held Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of St. Andrew By The Sea.  Reverend Robert Warren will officiate.  A private interment will follow.  At the request of the family, there will not be a reception following the service.  Because of Sue's dedication and love for St. Andrew By the Sea, it is suggested by the family that any memorials be made to the church.  A few of the many photos taken of Sue as she involved herself in our church's life and its many activities are included in a slide show which may be viewed by clicking the small photo of Sue below.  We will all miss this beloved member of our congregation.  Her spiritual journey, which was joined with ours for so many years, will now continue in the nearer presence of her Creator and with those whom she loved and cherished here who preceded her there

Annual Chili Cook-off
The annual chili cook-off for St. Andrew By the Sea was held Sunday February 21st in the Fellowship Hall.  For a pittance you could vote on your favorite chili and dessert, and once again have a hand in proclaiming the greatest chili cooks and dessert makers in the congregation, if not the world.  There were over 500 votes (dollars) cast and everyone had a good time, at least until the indigestion set in later in the evening.  Thanks to Mae Alanko and the Fellowship Committee for hosting the event, and especially Susannah Lax for the decorations.  The winners of the chili cook-off were Bill Martin, Mae Alanko, and Linda Chappelle.  The dessert winners were Boots Bass, Carolyn Burnette and Linda Brown.  They are pictured below from left to right.  You may enlarge the photos if you want to see their prizes by clicking on the small photos.  In case you are wondering why there are two photos, just remember that the web master was one of the winners.
