Consecration Eve
Consecration DayIn early January, the crane for lifting the
steeple arrived at the construction site and the word quickly spread that the steeple was
going to go up. A fairly large crowd, for
a work day, gathered to watch the steeple being placed on the church. It was an exciting
day, and surpassingly the steeple was placed rather quickly. Somehow the church
looked prouder, if that is possible, and it certainly looked more like a church.
As the months passed, the beauty of the design and the craftsmanship of the work began
to reveal itself. It also became evident that the Worship Committee had done its job
in the selection of colors, furniture, appointments, flooring, lighting and everything
else. Thanks Worship Committee.
As with any project of this size, some things did not turn out as envisioned, but the
contractor, under the watchful eyes of Phil and John made things right.
As the time for occupancy drew near it was time for the congregation to pay for the
furnishings not included in the contract. The generosity of the congregation was
astonishing. Funds were raised or donated for every need brought to the
congregation's attention...from pews to bibles to hymnals to vestments and any number of
other items such as the alter cross, the communion chalice, alter linens, and on and on.
What love and what generosity.
And then one day, it was the 26th of May and the church was ready for worship. We
processed from the modular sanctuary, taking with us the many wonderful memories we had
accumulated while we worshipped in it, to the new sanctuary which will serve us for years
to come. It was truly a time of wonder and joy. There were smiles and hugs all
around as friends and family members joined the congregation in almost filling up the
sanctuary on the very first Sunday. The choir did fill the sanctuary with some of
the most beautiful music we have ever heard. The Worship Committee and the Pastor
enriched us all by the order of worship and its content. In short ... it was a
splendid day and the culmination of years of work and planning. Now we have a place
that will stand for years to come as a testament to our love of God and our loyalty to him
in executing the vision he had for us and gave to us. May we always serve him with
the beauty and dedication evident in this sanctuary.
