| HOME BOARD CHARTER HISTORY 1998 1999 2000 2001 Theater Office MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION Officiary Ushers STAFF FACILITIES 1999 2000 2001 Consecration Eve Consecration Day As the year 2000 began we knew for sure that the Y2K bug was not going to interfere with sanctuary construction, but we were having to wait on a process call surcharging. Once the foundation was packed down enough by the huge mound that had been built up for just that purpose, the architects and engineers gave the go ahead to begin construction. Ground was broken in March 2000. The progress from May 2000 through December 2000 is evident in the photos on the right. Once the foundation was poured and the "red steel" began to go up it became easier with each passing day to tell more about the shape and character of the building. Each week, before or after worship, we got a look at the progress made during the week. Fortunately there were very few rain delays, and just as fortunately, John Wilson, our man on the site, kept things running smoothly. We will never be able to thank John and Phil Bass enough for all of the responsibility they shouldered for the congregation. Until safety considerations dictated, we were able to enter the building almost at will and look at the work in progress, but that stopped as the year came to an end. The year 2000 was one of great anticipation on the part of the congregation and we knew that soon all of the hard work by all of the committees would be paying off. The contractor, Stuart Construction, and his crews treated the structure with respect from the very beginning. They sensed they were not building just a building......they were building a church to the glory of God. |
